Utah Newborn Photography | Newborn Photoshoot in Your Home

There is nothing sweeter than a newborn. When it’s time to capture your new baby and you want to do it from the comfort of your home, it can be overwhelming to get your space ready. Let me help you to prepare for your in-home newborn photoshoot. Let’s make sure you’re not focused on the background of the photo and instead on you and your new baby.

To start, make sure to hide cords. If you need to unplug and move things, do it! You don’t want a dark cord drawing the eyes away from the most important things in the picture.

We all have “catch-all” spaces where things pile up over time. For your photos, find a new place for all that countertop clutter. If you have to get a bin and put everything in it to deal with later, don’t feel bad! You have a newborn and that can be your priority.

Surprisingly, indoor light is not friendly for photography. Turn off all your lights to avoid that undesirable orange glow from artificial light. Instead, open all the blinds and drapes to allow the natural light to come in.

Your home doesn’t need to be perfect or Pinterest worthy. You don’t need to deep clean and don’t worry about clutter. I have three kids myself, so believe me when I say I totally get it! Messes are a part of life and it’s okay.

The more character in your home, the better. Pops of green from plants can really make a difference in making a house feel more like a home. They don’t have to be real or elaborate. Don’t be afraid to dress up your walls and show your personality! It doesn’t have to be over the top, but try to reflect you.

And finally, how do you pick an outfit for your newborn? Here are a couple of places I love to find cute outfits.

I had such a great time photographing the Lade family’s new baby. Their home was beautiful and so was their new addition! I hope you feel ready to get your home prepared for an in-home newborn photoshoot!
